Test Engineer

Cognition Energy is looking for a battery test engineer, to grow its small but dedicated team as it expands its cell testing facility. This is an interesting and varied role which would see your involvement in the full testing process, from liaising with customers to define test programmes, setting tests up in the lab and processing and delivering data, all while supporting in the day-today operation of the test facility.

 

Cognition Energy provides a testing service to characterise battery cells for external clients such as automotives, gigafactories and pack developers. We also develop CellPods, which are unique temperature control cell test chambers. Cognition's long term goal is to help the world switch to a 100% renewable future!

We don’t expect you to have all of the skills below and are committed to providing the training and support to develop your ability.

What you’ll have:

  • Master's degree or higher in related science or engineering field, with experience in a test lab, or 2+ years experience in test engineering.

  • Hands-on experience operating technical/scientific equipment with related control software.

  • Strong analytical and judgement skills, including the ability to troubleshoot and advise on solutions in the area of testing.

  • Good communication skills, able to discuss complex test plans with customers and colleagues then report the results.

  • Experience managing and analysing datasets using scripting/programming languages, ideally with Matlab.

What you'll do: 

  • Be an integral part of day-to-day testing operations in Cognition’s battery test laboratory. Cell Test Engineer Job Specification

  • Execute (set up, monitor, analyse data from and report results of) both internal and external battery test programmes.

  • Assess test requests and provide technical advice and guidance to customers, then work with them to prepare test plans and deliver test data to their requirements.

  • Ensure that battery testing at Cognition is executed efficiently while maintaining high quality data outputs.

  • Help to define and implement Cognition’s battery testing processes and procedures, develop internal test specifications and ensure health and safety compliance during battery testing.

  • Operation and development of Cognition’s data processing software tools.

  • You will have the opportunity to play a role in company development and strategy.

Even better if you have:

  • Hands-on experience of testing battery cells.

  • Experience operating common battery test equipment (e.g. Maccor, BaSyTec, Arbin or Neware equipment) or alternatively potentiostats (e.g. BioLogic, Ivium).

  • Experience using MATLAB.
